Call for Nominations for Honorary Degree Recipients 2025

Members of the community are invited to submit nominations for honorary degrees from St. Thomas University.
Guidelines for Selecting Candidates
No strict categories of recipients are defined but the following guidelines are suggested:
• normally, recommendations shall include at least one distinguished scholar for each ceremony
• that the nomination and recognition of individuals not already honoured by other institutions or in a public manner be encouraged
• that the University not normally bestow honorary degrees on currently serving members of the Board of Governors, faculty, or staff, or currently-sitting elected representatives who serve the local jurisdiction
• the names of nominees not selected remain before the Honorary Degree Committee for three years
Criteria
While flexibility is the norm, the submission of nominations ought to be guided by two questions:
1. What distinction has the person achieved as an academic, scientist, artist, educator, administrator, or public servant, or in any other recognized way?
2. What significant contribution has the person made, directly or indirectly, to the life of the University, the local community, the Province, the region, Canada, or the world?
All nominations must remain confidential at each stage of the process and nominees should not be notified of their nomination as the University cannot possibly recognize all the worthy candidates.
More information may be found here (at the bottom of the page) in the By-Laws of the University – Appendix G.
Submissions
Using the attached form, please provide a nomination to the Committee. Please note that providing only materials from websites or resumes will not be considered sufficient for adjudication of the nomination.
