Ó£»¨ÊÓƵ Tommies Earn Record 62 CCAA National Scholar Awards for 2024–25

A record 62 St. Thomas University Tommies earned the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Scholar distinction for 2024–2025, recognizing their outstanding performance in academics and athletics.
The National Scholar Award, one of the highest honours for student-athlete achievement in Canada, recognizes those who achieve honours standing in academics while competing in varsity athletics.
Brayden Bruce (men’s volleyball) and Kaitlyn Hamming (women’s cross country running) were among the Tommies recognized for their hard work.
“Being named a CCAA National Scholar means a great deal to me, as it represents the recognition of the hard work and dedication it takes to be a well-rounded student-athlete,” said Bruce, who is double majoring in Criminology and Criminal Justice and Human Rights.
Bruce said being a student-athlete has helped him develop strong habits and a clear path to success.
“Being part of a smaller, close-knit community has allowed me to build meaningful relationships with professors, teammates, and peers who have supported me throughout my journey,” he said.
Hamming, who is majoring in Anthropology and Fine Arts, said being a student-athlete at Ó£»¨ÊÓƵ has shaped her personal growth.
“It reminds me that I am capable of more than I think and gives me the drive to keep going and push myself to be the best person I can be,” she said.
Her experiences in sport have taught her valuable lessons that she said carry into the classroom and everyday life.
“It’s taught me how to overcome challenges, be encouraging when others face their own, and become a better team player—skills that translate into group projects where everyone can share their ideas and contribute,” she said.
